Interview With A Surrogate: DeLacey

Q: Why did you choose to become a surrogate?
A: I love being pregnant and I enjoy pregnancy. I also don’t want anymore kids at this point in my life, and I didn’t realize that my last pregnancy would be my last. I would love to be able to help another couple beginning a family of their own and experience the joy of having children!

Q: Is your family okay with your decision?
A: They are all very supportive of my decisions and my husband is very happy that I would be willing and able to be a surrogate.

Q: How was the experience of meeting the couple you are matched with?
A: It was actually a very smooth, easy, and joyful experience. I was a little nervous but Amy made it more comfortable. She talked us through everything before it happened and answered any questions that we might have.

Q: Has the process so far been what you expected?
A: I really didn’t have many expectations going into this, I kind of thought that it would be a quick, non friendly experience and it has been anything but that.

Q: Where are you currently in your surrogacy journey?
A: We are matched with a couple right now, we are waiting to start a cycle. We have had a couple bumps in the road which have caused a delay in doing the transfer, but will be moving forward shortly.

Q: Do you think it will be difficult to give the baby to its intended parents after you give birth?
A: I’m sure it will be somewhat hard but seeing the emotion that has come with this experience I am sure that it will be much easier when the time comes. I really do believe that a child, whether from a surrogate, or adopted or whatever means necessary ends up with the parents that it was meant to be with!

Q: Would you want to keep in contact with the child and its parents?
A: I am really not sure, I have never done this before so I am willing to do whatever is comfortable with the parents. I’m sure that I would like at least a picture every once in a while just so that I can remember this experience.

Q: Is it worth it to go to all this trouble in order to have a child that isn’t yours?
A: I say definitely, I don’t think that you could ever experience anything like it. What a wonderful thing to be able to help a couple start a family and be able to experience the joys of having a child and completing their family.
