Laura: A Surrogate Mother

My Story, Part 1

My name is Laura, I am a 32 married mother of two beautiful children ages 3 and 4. We have been so blessed; with our children and I loved being pregnant. As sappy as this sounds, I just feel this is my calling. It’s just me; I like to always feel I am helping. As a college student I majored in Psychology and have gone on to work in many different counseling, job coaching, teaching, and social work positions. While attending college I was first introduced to egg donation; this is where my journey to help those who need help with building their families begins.

After completing our family, egg donations, surrogacy just seemed like the next step. I have been lucky with easy pregnancies and knew that I still had more in me to give. I started researching surrogacy and after speaking with many agencies decided I was well informed and ready to bring this idea and research to my husband. He was not exactly jumping up and down but to my surprise he has come around and is now very supportive and I think just as excited as I am. This will be such an amazing experience and example for all around us, especially our children. We teach our children everyday about sharing and that is exactly what I will say to our children when it’s time to talk about the baby or babies growing in my tummy, or to anyone who asks for that matter. I hope not only to give a family what they have dreamed of but to also set a great example to others. We have already been surprised by our families who have had amazing positive reactions and look forward to supporting us through this journey.

Now I know that everything will not be roses. I have already had experiences that were less than my dream of a perfect surrogacy. At my first appointment with the Reproductive Endocrinologist I found out that I have uterine polyps. Emotionally this hit me pretty hard, I had feelings of inadequacy, thoughts that maybe I would never be able to be a surrogate, and knowing that I had them worried me as well. This very first hurdle taught me so much, I now know that there will probably be many hurdles along the way and to just relax because everything will workout for the best. I like to focus on the positive side, the light at the end of the tunnel so to speak and everything happens for a reason, as long as I know I am doing my best, what will be will be.

Meeting our IP’s

This of course was something we were very nervous about, but instantly I felt comfortable with my IM, as if we had been friends for a long time. This was exactly what I had hoped for; I can’t imagine going through such and intimate experience with a family I didn’t feel comfortable with. After a couple months, legal, screening, evals, etc, we are on our way!!!

Coming soon; Our cycle!!!
