Proposition 8 and Surrogacy
As many of you know, Proposition 8 is an initiative measure on the 2008 California General Election ballot titled Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry. If passed, the proposition would change the California Constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in California. A new section would be added stating "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California."
California state law does allow for a same sex couple, whether married or not, to have the names of both parents on a child’s birth certificate. This will not change if Proposition 8 passes. What will change, however, are the rights of these parents to marry the person they love, the father or mother of their child, which I see as a fundamental right of all human beings.
Please vote NO on Proposition 8.
