When we first talked to friends and family about my wish to become a surrogate, we were met with mixed reactions. Many concerns were about my health and the ability to continue caring for my own family. As I mentioned before, I do have easy pregnancies, although with any pregnancy there will be things I am not able to do. I chose to give up things like quad riding with the family and some field trips with my kids, but I was comfortable with the decision. We as a family agreed to move forward with the decision to become a surrogate.
Many people asked me how I could give up my “own child”? In my situation, I chose to be a carrier only, so the fertilized embryo was not my own. I would tell people that the decision to do this for someone was one that truly comes from my heart. There are a lot of very deserving families that have no other choice.
I truly believe that I was meant to be a surrogate, the experience was absolutely beautiful! I still keep in touch with the first surrogate family and LOVE the baby I gave birth to for them. I hope they will always be part of our lives and think of them as part of our extended family.
