Surrogate Point of View Series | Jackie, My Story

My name is Jacquelyn (Jackie) Owen. I am a 34-year-old, single mother of a 12-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old son. I loved being pregnant but I decided after my son was born that I didn’t want any more children of my own — I even had my tubes tied.

However, the thought of helping people have children of their own really excited me. At first, I looked into egg donation. But I decided it wasn’t for me, because I was uncomfortable with the idea that I was giving away my own child. Then I was introduced to surrogacy. When I learned that I didn’t need my tubes to be a surrogate mother it was perfect! I love being pregnant and as I got more involved with the whole process, I just fell in love with it. There is no better feeling (besides having your own children) than when the doctor delivers the baby and places him or her in the parent’s arms. I find that feeling almost addictive.

This is not my first time being a gestational surrogate — it will be my third surrobaby. I did work with one other couple before my first surrobaby, but that did not end in a pregnancy. My first surrobaby was a boy born on May 9, 2006 and my second surrobaby was a girl born on August 21, 2007.
